AUTO ACCIDENT INJURIES

Picture
Every few seconds, somebody is involved in a car accident. People who have been involved in a collision will suffer trauma to some degree. A collision at only 8 miles per hour is powerful enough to cave in the steel of a bumper. Imagine how it has affected the delicate ligaments in your neck. If 8 miles per hour can cause damage to your spine, imagine what happens at 35, 45 or even 55 miles per hour! If you or a loved one has been involved in an auto accident you need to get your spine checked immediately.

Too often people don't seek treatment following a car accident because they don't feel they are hurt. By far, the most common injury to the neck is whiplash. Whiplash is caused by a sudden movement of the head backward, forward, or sideways or any combination of the three that result in the damage to the supporting muscles, ligaments and other connective tissues in the neck and upper back.

Because symptoms of a whiplash injury can take weeks or months to manifest, it is easy to be fooled into thinking that you are not injured. Therefore, whiplash injuries need to be taken very seriously.

Unfortunately, by the time more serious complications develop, some of the damage from the injury may have become permanent. Numerous studies have shown that years after whiplash victims settle their insurance claims, approximately 50% of them state that they still suffer with symptoms from their injuries. If you have been in a motor vehicle or any other kind of accident, don't assume that you escaped injury if you are not currently in pain.

The Rights of An Auto Accident Victim

Every driver in the state of Pennsylvania must carry insurance. And every insurance policy provides medical coverage for anyone who has been injured as a result of an auto accident. This coverage is called med-pay. Another term for med-pay is personal injury protection (or “PIP”). The minimum coverage that Pennsylvanian drivers must carry (by law) is $5,000.00 of med-pay. That means that the first $5,000.00 of your medical bills will be covered by your automobile insurance. Also, in 99.9% of the cases, there is no deductible and no co-pays. That means you can get the care you need and without any out of pocket costs whatsoever. Pennsylvania is also a "no-fault" state. That means it doesn't matter who was at fault. You are still protected and are entitled to receive treatment that is paid for by your auto insurance.

Can My Insurance Rates Go Up If I Use My Med-Pay?

By law, your insurance company may not raise your insurance rates (premiums) because you used your medical coverage. It doesn’t matter who’s at fault of the accident. You have a right to use this medical coverage.
